Matt Kenseth wins the UAW Daimler Chrysler 500
And sweeps the weekend with a win on Saturday and Sunday.
Kevin Harvick was closing in on Kenseth with 12 laps
to go. After David Reutimann crashed into the wall
with 7 laps to go there was a red flag stop. David's
00 Domino's car hit the wall hard and knocked the breath
out of him but he walked away.

The red flag stop was followed by a Quickie Yellow
and just before the restart Kevin Harvick had a
right front flat so he had to pit and missed the
restart finishing 17th.

Kenseth held onto the win with Jeff Gordon, the
pole sitter, finishing second. Jimmie Johnson was
third after leading some laps. Jeff Burton finished fourth
and Mark Martin finished fifth.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Martin Truex, Jr. the DEI cars
both had engine problems and Dale Jr's. engine blew up sending
him out for the day finishing 40th.

Jimmie Johnson wins the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400
A 3-Peat, Jimmie's 3rd Las Vegas victory in a row.

Jimmie Johnson went to the end of the line to 25th
after a drive thru penalty for a tire rolling out of
the pit box but drove back to the front to win the race.

In the first race with the new harder tires
Jeff Gordon led the most laps and raced to 2nd place
in close contention with Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Burton.

Mark Martin finished 5th and is still leading the
points race. He spoke before the race of still following
his plan for this year of "taking a break" and
watching the Bristol race from home.

With 14 laps to go after Kasey Kahne, the pole
sitter, gets sucked around on the outside and hits the wall
with the rear bumper, Dale Jr. goes down pit road while
it is still closed. He was following Jeff Burton in the 31
with ignition trouble and did not see the flashing
red light at the end of pit road. After the penalty he
finished 11th in the race.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished 14th going to Bristol where
he has historically done well.

Jimmie Johnson Duels Jeff Gordon and Wins at Martinsville
Jimmie Johnson's 3rd win in the last 4 races is a duel
in the last 50 laps with Jeff Gordon who tried to move him
out of the way but finished 2nd. Jeff did lead 92 laps earlier
in the race and retained the point lead.

Denny Hamlin led 125 points and finished 3rd.
Kyle Busch led 10 laps and finished 4th.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. led the most laps at 136 but finished 5th.
Jeff Burton finished 6th and Tony Stewart who led 11 laps
finished 7th.

Denny Hamlin was the pole sitter and had led 125 laps
when a lug nut issue in the pits put him behind.

Kevin Harvick had another issue with a part failure
in the fuel system that put him 43 laps down.

The 12th caution in the race came when Dale Jarrett's Toyota
lost it's right rear wheel. After putting a new one on
he was in the race again. During the same caution there
was a fire in the foam in the door of the 29 but Harvick drove back
to the pits and finished the race 55 laps down.

In two weeks the race is in Texas with the standard
cars and Mark Martin will be back.

Jeff Gordon Wins at Phoenix and Ties Dale Earnhardt for Lifetime Wins
Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart battled for first place and
Jeff Gordon won. Tony Stewart squeezed through three wide to
take the lead from Jeff Gordon after the last restart and then
Jeff powered forward to overtake Tony and pull away for the win.

Jeff Gordon had a very good day with winning the pole to tie Darrell
Waltrip for 59 lifetime poles. Then he was the first to win from the
pole at Phoenix and it was his first win at Phoenix International Raceway.
This win also tied him with Dale Earnhardt for 76 total victories. And all
with wife, Ingrid there to see. Jeff took his victory lap with an
RCR #3 flag waving from his hand.

Tony Stewart again led the most laps at 132 but came in 2nd.
Denny Hamlin led 72 laps early on but went to the end of the line
after a pit road speeding violation. He made his way up to 3rd.

Jimmie Johnson finished 4th and Matt Kenseth was 5th.
Kevin Harvick led 52 laps but finished 10th.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was caught by a caution while making
a green flag pit stop and ended up 19th after running about
8th to 10th place during the race. He drove Kyle Busch's car for about
9 laps in last week's race to help out and to get the feel of a

Jeff Gordon won at Talladega and passes Dale Earnhardt for
career wins at 77. Jeff Gordon passed Jamie McMurray for
the lead right before a caution came out with 4 laps to go and
they tried to finish with a green white checkered finish but
another caution ended the race while he was still leading.

Jeff Gordon's second straight win pulls him ahead even
more in the points.

Tony Stewart was knocked into the wall by David Guilliand

Dale Earnhardt Jr. started from the back in 36th place

spot again but did finish 7th.

Jimmie Johnson finished 2nd, Kurt Busch finished 3rd,

All-Star Open and Challenge is Great Racing
Kevin Harvick won the $1,000,000 payout for the All-Star Challenge

Winning the 4th segment, Kevin Harvick brings home the prize
that he said he would share with his pit crew.

Matt Kenseth was having a great night winning the 1st
and 3rd segments but in the 4th segment he was penalized
along with Greg Biffle and Casey Mears for speeding
leaving pit road. This was the required pit but each team
could take as short a stop as they wanted. Matt was just
in too much a hurry to beat his competitors back out onto
the race track. He went to the end of the longest line but
then worked his way up to finish 7th.

The race format was new this year with 4 20 lap segments
and no inversion segment. There was a 10 minute half time
and the required pit in the 4th segment that really mixed
up the action.

Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Jeff Burton, Kurt Busch,
and Ryan Newman all had good runs until.... Jeff Gordon got
a left rear flat with 17 laps to go and finished 11th.

Kyle Busch made a bold move with 18 laps to go in the
final segment, got loose, moved up into brother Kurt Busch
in the Penske #2 car and they both ended up in the wall.
Kyle had led at the end of segment 2 and a total of 24 laps.

Kevin Harvick was 1st and Jimmie Johnson was 2nd
with Mark Martin in 3rd place with 12 laps to go.
Although Jimmie Johnson made a move to go around on
the high side, Kevin Harvick stayed in front the whole
way to the checkered flag.

The winner of the All-Star Open was Martin Truex Jr. in
the #1 car and 2nd was Johnny Sauter in the #70 car, so they
both got to run in the Challenge.

Kenny Wallace in the #78 car was voted into the
Challenge by the fans.

The Challenge pay-out was $1,021,539 plus there
were segment pay-outs of $75,000 each.

Kevin Harvick won, Jimmie Johnson was 2nd, Mark Martin
was 3rd, Jeff Burton 4th, Tony Stewart 5th, Johnny Sauter 6th,
Matt Kenseth 7th, Ryan Newman 8th, and Dale Junior 9th.

Casey Mears Wins His First Nextel Cup Race

Green flag pit stops for gas with less than 10 laps to go
changes out Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Denny Hamlin,
Brian Vickers, and Jimmie Johnson for Casey Mears who
finishes first and then runs out of gas, J.J. Yeley who
finishes second for his best Nextel Cup finish yet and
Kyle Petty who finishes third for his first top ten
finish in ten years. Kyle won the Coca-Cola 600 21 years
ago and has had 51 starts at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Reed Sorenson was fourth, Brian Vickers had led 76 laps
finishing fifth, Tony Stewart led 55 laps finishing sixth,
Ricky Rudd led one lap finishing seventh, Dale Earnhardt Jr.
led one lap finishing eighth after being in the top 3 positions
before stopping for gas, Denny Hamlin led one lap finishing 9th,
Jimmie Johnson led 83 laps finishing 10th, and Matt Kenseth
led 50 laps finishing 12th.

It's a good thing Jeff Gordon was leading the points by 231
the most since 1997 since he went home with a DNF after crashing
in lap 63. Contact with Tony Raines put him through the grass,
into the wall and then getting hit by A.J. Allmendinger
with a lift off the ground. But Jeff walked away from the
crash and was ok.

Jeff Gordon Has 4th Win of Season at Pocono
After a long rain delay Jeff Gordon has 4th Pocono win.

The rain delay on Sunday was about 3 hours and the
Pocono 500 started after 5 pm but ran 106 laps
before more rain and impending darkness red-flagged
the race with Jeff Gordon in the lead.

Steve Latarte's right-on strategy kept Jeff
Gordon out on the track with the last pit stop
because of the rain clouds in the distance.

Jeff was loosing tire traction with Ryan Newman
speeding up to overtake him and was actually at the
door of the 24 car when the yellow came out for rain.

Jeff Gordon led 25 laps but most importantly he
was out front when the race was red-flagged for rain.
Ryan Newman led 20 laps and finished 2nd for the 2nd
week in a row. Martin Truex Jr. finished 3rd after
leading 1 lap. Casey Mears finished 4th after leading
2 laps and Tony Stewart finished 5th after leading 3
laps. Denny Hamlin led 49 laps and took 4 tires instead
of 2 on the last pit stop, then came from 21st to finish
6th. Mark Martin led 1 lap and finished 7th. Kyle Busch
was 8th, Matt Kenseth was 9th, Clint Bowyer was 10th,
and Kevin Harvick was 11th. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
finished 12th and Carl Edwards finished 14th after
leading 4 laps.

On lap 91 Jimmie Johnson's left front tire went
down to the rim throwing sparks on the raceway all the
around to the pits. No caution was called because it
was so close to the halfway point and the rain was
threatening close by. He went to the garage and fell
from second to fourth in the points.

Carl Edwards Ends 52 Race Win-less Streak at Michigan
Carl Edwards wins at Michigan for his 5th career win

and Roush Fenway Fords win again.

Martin Truex, Jr. was riding the high line but
touched the wall with 9 laps to go and then was
not a challenge to Edwards as he was 3 seconds behind
and finished second.

It has been 52 races since Carl Edwards last won and
his crew member who hadn't shaved since 11/6/05 will
now shave again. Carl led 63 laps, the most laps led.

Tony Stewart started from 41st and finished 3rd.
Casey Mears finished 4th and Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished
5th which brought him up to 12th in the points.

Now DEI has 2 drivers in the Race for the Chase.

Jeff Gordon finished 9th the last one on the lead
lap and Michael Waltrip finished 10th one lap down but
its good to see Michael and Toyota in the race and
finishing in the top 10.

Matt Kenseth was out from an early crash and Jimmie
Johnson ran out of gas with 9 laps to go dropping him to
finish 19th. Matt dropped to 4th in the points and Denny
Hamlin who finished 14th came up to 2nd in the points.

Juan Pablo Montoya Wins First Nascar Nextel Race at Infineon
Jamie McMurray won the pole and led 30 laps but ran out of
fuel on the last lap while in second place. Juan Pablo Montoya
had passed him for first place with 7 laps to go and while
saving fuel rolling as much as possible because they didn't
think he would have enough fuel for the end held on

The early leaders Robby Gordon (led 48 laps) and
Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn't have their strategy work out
in the end and after making green-flag pit stops finished

Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon started at the end
of the line because of inspection infractions of Chad
Knaus testing a gray area with the Car of Tomorrow.

Jamie McMurray Wins Pepsi 400 By .005 Seconds At Daytona
With hard racing at the end Jamie McMurray and Kyle Busch
battle for the win. Jamie McMurray wins by inches and
Kyle Busch bemoans the fact that Jeff Gordon gave
Rousch car #26 a push at the end instead of his
rest-of-the-season team-mate.

At lap 147 3 Hendricks cars run up front with
the 24 and 48 car pushing the 25 car of Casey Mears
to first place. Then at 10 laps to go after another
caution Jeff Gordon in the 24 is first.

After the single file restart with 8 laps to go
Kyle Busch gets out front with Gordon, Johnson, Kurt
Busch and Carl Edwards racing behind him.

On lap 158 with McMurray and Gordon on the high-
line Gordon pushes the 26 to the front past Kyle Busch.

Kurt Busch was behind Kyle Busch but not able to
provide much assistance. Kyle charged forward but
McMurray had a final surge and nosed past Kyle for the win.

Early in the race McMurray was black-flagged for
passing below the yellow line and overcame the penalty
for the win.

Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart got together on lap
15 while running 1 and 2. Tony Stewart got a run on
Denny Hamlin pushing him from the rear and Hamlin took
Stewart into the wall with him. Hamlin finished 61 laps
down and Stewart was 34 laps down dropping from 6th to 7th
in the points.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was caught up in an early
crash and finished 26 laps down but staying 12th in
the points.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. started 5th, had a 12 second

it from lap 210 to the end finishing 19th but keeping
12th spot in the points.

Tony Stewart Wins His Second Time at The Brickyard
With the same car he drove 2 weeks ago to win at
Chicagoland a very confident Tony Stewart wins the
Allstate 400 at The Brickyard in Indianapolis.

The #20 car led 5 times and was behind Kevin

was heard to say on the radio "Here, Kitty, Kitty."
Chasing Harvick down, Stewart passed him with 10
laps to go and never looked back.

Ganassi teammates Juan Pablo Montoya and
Reed Sorenson had a great day. Reed Sorenson
the youngest Nextel Cup driver at age 21 was
the pole sitter finishing 5th after leading

Jimmie Johnson, last year's Brickyard winner,
was in a crash on lap 47 and came back one lap
down. Then on lap 60 the damage on the left

the car with only singed eye lashes. He finished
39th and dropped from 7th to 9th in the points.

Kurt Busch Dominates the Pennsylvania 500 for the Win
Leading 7 times for 175 laps out of 200 Kurt Busch
dominates the race from the beginning. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
started from the pole but Kurt Busch passed him
from second place before the end of the first lap.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s troubles started with
a bad handling car because of the shock setup
the team was using. After falling back all during
the race Junior spins on lap 123, cuts a tire, and
comes to pit road. In addition to changing tires
the crew changes the shock absorber and Dale starts
back in 26th position. The long laps at Pocono
make it the only racetrack you could take the
time to do this change and still make it out on
the lead lap.

From 26th position Dale Jr. moves up to 13th
spot in 6 laps. Then there is a caution on lap
140 and Junior takes 2 right-side tires and gains
11 spots coming out of the pits taking the lead
from Reed Sorenson by lap 145.

Kurt Busch restarted 9th after a loose lug
nut in the pit and "reels in the red snapper" by
lap 154.

A chain reaction stack-up crash occurs on
lap 181. With 16 laps to go on the restart
Kurt Busch pulls away from Dale Earnhardt Jr.
and stays in front to the checkered flag.

Kevin Harvick won the Montreal Busch race
on Saturday but with a 21.9 second pit stop on
lap 169 he finishes 17th.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. led 8 laps and finishes 2nd
but drops to 13th in the points behind Kurt Busch
in 12th.

Very few other drivers led any laps. Denny
Hamlin finishes 3rd, Jeff Gordon extends his point
lead and finishes 4th, Jimmie Johnson finished 5th
and gains 2 positions in the points.

Tony Stewart started 24th and finishes 6th while
Mark Martin started 25th and finishes 9th.

Ryan Newman was 7th, Clint Bowyer was 8th
and Casey Mears rounds out the top 10.

Jamie McMurray slips two spots in the points
after three crashes and finishing 43 laps down.

Tony Stewart Wins His 4th Race at The Glen
Tony Stewart was running second when Jeff Gordon
over-drove in turn 1 with 2 laps to go spinning
out and then Tony took 1st position to win Centurion
Boats at The Glen.

Tony Stewart was leading on lap 44 when he
drove into the grass and ended up 19th but he kept
focused and drove up to 2nd position behind Jeff
Gordon. With pressure from Tony Stewart behind
Jeff he "had to push, Tony was really good, [I]
just pushed too hard." Jeff Gordon spun out with
2 laps to go leading 51 laps and finished 9th.

Tony has won three of the last four Nextel
Cup Races; Chicagoland, Indianapolis, and
now The Glen.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. running in 2nd place
inches behind Jeff Gordon breaks the motor in lap 63.
Junior has to be towed off for his 5th DNF this year
and he drops to 14th in the points.

With 18 laps to go Juan Pablo Montoya gets spun
out by Martin Truex Jr. and takes out Kevin Harvick
who stops in front of the 42 car and gets out to
confront, have words, and grab the face mask of
Juan Pablo. Nascar officals broke them up and
Jeff Burton who had hit Montoya in the crash came
to pull Kevin Harvick away. Harvick and Burton
both loose a position in the points for not finishing.

Tony Stewart took first place in the race
and gained one position in the points. Denny Hamlin
came in 2nd, Jimmie Johnson finished 3rd, Ron Fellows
finished 4th, and Robby Gordon finished 5th.

Martin Truex, Jr. finished 6th and Kyle Busch had
a strong run finishing 7th. Carl Edwards was running
2nd behind Tony Stewart when he ran into the gravel on
the last lap and finished 8th. However, he did gain
a position in the points.

As mentioned, Jeff Gordon finished a disappointing
9th and Greg Biffle was 10th. Kurt Busch was 11th,
Matt Kenseth was 12th, Ryan Newman was 13th and
Boris Said was 14th. Boris Said drove the Woods' Brothers
car at the request of Bill Elliott to give the team the
best chance of gaining owner's points for a boost out
of 36th into 35th.

Announcements made this weekend include JJ Yeley
moving from Joe Gibbs racing to make room for Kyle Busch
moving in from Hendricks Motor Sports and Ray Evernham
MotorSports merging with George Gillett, Jr. to form
Gillett Evernham Motorsports, GEM.

Kurt Busch is the Winner at Michigan
After two days of rain delay, Kurt Busch wins
at Michigan on Tuesday. It was his second win
in 3 races. Busch led 4 times for 92 laps and
held off Martin Truex Jr. in the closing laps.

Jimmie Johnson finished 3rd moving up to
6th in the points.

Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, Dave Blaney in a
Toyota, Carl Edwards, Brian Vickers also in a
Toyota, Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart finished
the top 10.

Jeff Gordon started from the pole and ran
in the top 5 most of the day until a pit repair
cost him positions and then he spun out from a
deflating tire into the infield grass soaking
wet with the rain from the past 3 days.
He finished up 27th but still retains the
point lead.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. started from the back
after changing the transmission on the #8 and
worked his way into the top 10 for most of
the day but a mistake in a late pit stop cost
him about 5 positions and he finished 12th.
He did move up to 13th position in the points
but Kurt Busch's win makes the points difference
greater between 12th and 13th.

Kyle Busch announces signing with Joe Gibbs
Racing and will be in the #18 car. This championship
team with drivers he gets along with is the best
choice for him and he's looking towards 2008.

The fans boo as the announcement came that the
#8 car will stay with DEI because an agreement could
not be reached with Teresa Earnhardt. Dale Junior
looks forward to a completely new and fresh start
with Hendrick's Motor Sports.

Carl Edwards Wins At Bristol Locked Into The Chase
Dominating the last part of the race and leading
182 laps, Carl Edwards holds off Kasey Kahne for
the win.

Kasey Kahne won the pole, won the Busch race
and led 305 laps in the Cup race but could not
catch Edwards in the last part of the race. He
finished second.

The smooth new refinished track at Bristol with
the Car of Tomorrow and perfect tires from Goodyear
make for a race with long green-flag runs and only
9 cautions for the 500 lap race.

Clint Bowyer finished 3rd, Tony Stewart finished
4th after starting 23rd and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. ran
as high as 2nd place but finished 5th ahead of Kurt
Busch in 6th. Kurt led 2 laps and Ryan Newman led 2
laps finishing 6th. These three are on the bubble for
12th place in the points.

Bobby Labonte finished 8th, Kyle Busch led 3
laps and finished 9th, Greg Biffle finished 10th.

Jeff Gordon led for a lap but got caught on pit
road when a caution came out on lap 370 that put
him a lap down. He then gets caught up in the crash
on lap 452 when Ricky Rudd with a bump from Martin
Truex, Jr. hits the wall. He goes back out without
a rear panel and finishes 19th.

Tony Stewart moved up 2 places in the points
with his strong finish. Denny Hamlin had engine
failure with a fire on lap 211 and jumps out of
the car for a DNF. Only the 2nd DNF of his career.
He drops a position in the points.

Matt Kenseth also drops a position in the points
when he crashes with Ricky Rudd on lap 452 and leaves
the race.

Looking forward to The Chase when the points
re-set to 5000 plus 10 points for each win, the line-up
looks like this. Jeff Gordon with 4 wins 5040; Jimmie
Johnson with 4 wins 5040; Tony Stewart with 3 wins 5030.

Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards both with 2 wins at 5020.
Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Burton, Kyle Busch,
Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex, Jr. with 1 win each at
5010. Clint Bowyer with no wins would be at 5000.

2 Races left to The Chase.

Aquous TV like Carl Edwards said?

Carl Edwards made a strong challenge at the end
overcoming a collision with Juan Pablo Montoya while
exiting his pit box. He finished 2nd.

Kyle Busch driving the loose high line all night
led the most laps at 97 but finished 3rd.

Jeff Burton the Busch Race winner on Saturday
night, led 1 lap and finished 4th.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. raced to win and with no
engine problems and a great pit road performance,
led 15 laps and finished 5th. He gained 30 points
but is still 128 points out of 12th place.

Martin Truex, Jr. led 4 laps and finished 6th.
Matt Kenseth started 26th and finished 7th.

Brian Vickers led 3 laps and had another top
10 finish for Toyota finishing 8th. Kurt Busch,
the pole sitter led 21 laps and finished 9th.

Kasey Kahne finished 10th, Booby Labonte led
4 laps and finished 11th, while Tony Stewart led
12 laps and took a gamble staying out while everyone
else pitted on lap 217 but had to have gas by lap
229 before catching a yellow so he was shuffled back
finishing 12th.

There were a record setting number of cautions
at 11 including caution #4 when Michael Waltrip made
contact with Ricky Rudd and his left front tire had
a rub then exploded apart shearing off oil lines which
started a spectacular fire at the back of the car. It took
a while for 6'5" Michael to get out of the car but thankfully
he was well protected and had no injuries.

On caution #11 Jeff Gordon slid up the track into
Jeremy Mayfield and David Reutimann causing a multiple car crash.
David Reutimann collected Ricky Rudd who spun into
the wall and was injured. Ricky was taken to a local hospital
with an injured left wrist.

It was Ricky's 900th start in Nascar Nextel Cup races
matching the King's record. His 28 year career started
in Rockingham, NC with his 1st start in 1975.

Kevin Harvick finished 14th in the race and dropped to
12th in the points while Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch and
Martin Truex Jr. moved up in the points due to their
strong finishes. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the only driver
on the bubble with a mathematical chance of moving into
The Chase with one race to go.

Jimmie Johnson is now seeded first in The Chase with
the new system of 5000 points plus 10 for every win. It
looks like this: Jimmie Johnson with 5 wins 5050; Jeff Gordon
with 4 wins 5040; Tony Stewart with 3 wins 5030.

Jimmie Johnson's 6th Win of the Season at Richmond
Jimmie Johnson did it again and won for the second
race in a row. He led for 4 times and 104 laps to
win the Chevy Rock and Roll 400. After adjustments
during the race, it came together at the end to
be ahead of all the other cars.

Tony Stewart tried catching him at the end
and actually led 27 laps but finished in 2nd with
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. running in 3rd near the end.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. ran 110% as promised but
was officially eliminated from The Chase when
there were 20 laps to go and Kevin Harvick was in
8th position. But to end it all, Junior's engine
let go with smoke billowing out the back with
just 6 laps to go. His 5th DNF from engine troubles
this season. He said they ran in the top 5 almost every
week but just couldn't finish the races.

David Ragan in the #6 car finished in 3rd
position at the end of the race. A great run for
the rookie.

Jeff Gordon who led 190 laps early in the race
starting with the first lap, finished in 4th. At
the end around 35 laps to go he was racing hard
with Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. which
used up his tires and he was loose but the fans
were loving it, standing and cheering them on.

Johnny Sauter had an excellent run and with
an engine from Hendrick Motor Sports starting in
35th and finishing the race in 5th.

Kevin Harvick finished the race in 7th place
after a lot of close calls. His season which began
with a Daytona 500 win and winning the All-Star
Race is beginning again in 11th place in The Chase.

Denny Hamlin finished 6th in the race having
led 17 laps. Kasey Kahne finished 8th, Kurt Busch
finished 9th and JJ Yeley finished 10th.

Carl Edwards had a strong car and was leading
the race when his engine blew probably from a
broken valve spring. He had just led 15 laps but
was done for the night on lap 182.

Juan Pablo Montoya was caught up in a crash on
lap 242 with a fire in the car due to a broken oil or
fuel line. He exits the car safely. The #2 car of
Kurt Busch was also damaged in the rear panel pushing
the COT wing slightly out of position.

The big announcement this week was that in
2008 Joe Gibbs Racing will move to Toyota for their
team cars. This is viewed as a surge forward for
all of the Toyota teams in bringing a Championship
winning team into the fold to assist in engineering
development and direction. All of the JGR team
members were positive in agreeing with the change.

Robert Yates announces this week that he is
retiring and turning the team over to his son, Doug
Yates.

The Chase roster:
1. Jimmie Johnson Leader 5060
2. Jeff Gordon 5040
3. Tony Stewart 5030
4. Carl Edwards 5020
5. Kurt Busch 5020
6. Denny Hamlin 5010
7. Matt Kenseth 5010
8. Jeff Burton 5010

CLINT BOWYER DOMINATES FOR FIRST NEXTEL CUP WIN!
Clint Bowyer leads 6 times for 221 laps in the
Sylvania 300 at Loudon, New Newhampshire.
After winning the pole, Clint led most of the
laps during the race and was very nervous leading
the last 30 laps for the win. His win moved him
8 positions from 12th to 4th in the points.

Tony Stewart led 39 laps and finished 3rd
while Jeff Gordon didn't lead any laps and
finished 2nd but is tied in the points for 1st.

Kyle Busch led 21 laps and finished 4th moving
up 4 positions in the Chase points. Martin Truex, Jr.
led 1 lap and finished 5th moving up from 7th to
6th in the points. Jimmie Johnson started 4th
and finished 6th. Matt Kenseth finished 7th.
Casey Mears led 1 lap and finished 8th. Ryan
Newman led 2 laps and finished 9th. JJ Yeley
finished 10th.

Jamie McMurray was 11th, Chaser, Carl Edwards
was 12th, Greg Biffle was 13th, Reed Sorenson led
9 laps and finished 14th. Chaser Denny Hamlin
finished 15th.

At the beginning, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. ran up
to 5th place and then on lap 180 he was loose in
Turn 1. He spun but didn't hit anything. Fast
forward to lap 249 and he led 4 laps hoping for
a yellow flag caution but pitted on the green
and finished 16th.

Kevin Harvick ended up 1 lap down in 17th
place after having been lapped by his team-mate
Clint Bowyer. Harvick survived 2 flat tires and
a near miss crash.

Kurt Busch struggled with engine problems
which were thought to be in the valve and they
replaced a spark plug. However, after the race
it was found that the carburetor was broke and
not allowing full throttle. He finished a lap
down in 25th place and hopes for a better race
next week.

Much anticipation is in the air with the
scheduling of a press conference Wednesday about
Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s car number (maybe 88) and
new sponsor (maybe Mountain Dew).

Also in the wind is the rumor that Budweiser
will sponsor the #9 car driven by Kasey Kahne.

NASCAR has also confirmed they will look at
tweaking the Chase points next year due to the
situation with Jeff Gordon leading the points
race by 317 and then loosing the commanding lead
in one sweep with the Chase points' reset. There
should be credit given for such a commanding lead
all season long as well as the extra points for
each win during the season.

The 2nd Chase Race is next week.

Race 28 of 36 | September 23, 2007

2. Jeff Gordon #24 5210
3. Tony Stewart #20 -10
4. Clint Bowyer #07 -15
5. Kyle Busch #5 -35
6. Martin Truex, Jr. #1 -40
7. Matt Kenseth #17 -54
8. Carl Edwards #99 -63
9. Denny Hamlin #11 -82
10. Kevin Harvick #29 -88
11. Jeff Burton #31 -91
12. Kurt Busch #2 -102

CARL EDWARDS WINS THE DODGE DEALERS 400
Carl Edwards overcomes trouble with the
throttle in the early laps and leads 95
laps for his 3rd win of the season and
a win in the 2nd race in The Chase. This
win moves him from 8th to 3rd in the points.

Matt Kenseth had the car to beat and
won bonus points for leading 192 laps the
most laps led but first had trouble with the
alternator going to the back-up battery and
then lost a cylinder for a catastrophic failure
of the Yates-Rousch engine on lap 375 and was
out for the day. He dropped 3 positions in the
points to #10.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was all the way up to
2nd after starting 21st and finished 3rd after
a decent running race.

On lap 386 with 14 laps to go Kurt Busch
had something break in the #2 car shooting him
up into the wall and then across the race
track collecting 12 other cars including Martin
Truex, Jr. who was running in 4th place. Truex
had heavy right front damage and went back
out onto the track without a hood. Tire rub on
the right front tire caused it to blow
spewing debris all over the track for another
caution. There were a record breaking
13 cautions in the race.

The race ended with only 6 cars on the lead
lap. Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Dale Earnhardt,
Jr., Mark Martin, Kyle Busch and Casey Mears.

Finishing 1 lap down in 7th was Jeff Burton,
8th was Jamie McMurray, 9th was Tony Stewart,
10th was Juan Pablo Montoya and 11th was Jeff Gordon.

Jimmie Johnson had a hard day after a tire
went down and he made a green-flag stop on lap
187 and was 2 laps down for the rest of the race
finishing in 14th spot.

Kevin Harvick also had troubles when he went
back into the pits on lap 171 with a loose tire
and finished 2 laps down in 20th.

On lap 80 Michael Waltrip's crewman, Art
Harris was hit in the back of the helmet and
knocked down by a wild flying tire that rolled
loose in the pits and was hit by the #6 car
causing it to bounce. Art was later treated and
released from a local hospital.

On lap 204 Denny Hamlin runs up into the rear
of Kyle Petty in the #45 car and he smashes
into the wall causing heavy damage. They work
on Denny Hamlin's car and he goes back out but
looses a brake rotor and comes back into the
pits with no brakes. The pit crew has to
catch his car to stop it.

While Denny is in the garage sitting in his car
with the pit crew making repairs, Kyle Petty comes
up to the window net poking his finger in making
a point with Denny. Then Kyle takes down the net
and a Nascar official trys to intervene but while
talking Kyle flicks down Denny's visor and walks away.
Well Denny has enough by then and takes off his
gloves and helmet and jumps out of the car but
is stopped from confrontation by the crew members.
Although he led twice for 61 laps, Denny Hamlin
finishes 38th 92 laps down.

Clint Bowyer has some damage on the right
front from the Hamlin / Petty collision
causing a broken splitter. He makes multiple
stops to repair the splitter and ends up
in 12th 1 lap down.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. announces on Tuesday
the release of his new candy bar Dale Jr.'s Big Mo'
named after his hometown Mooresville, NC. And on
Wednesday was the announcement and unveiling of his
new number 88 in 2008 which Robert Yates has so
graciously given to Junior as it has meaning
and history for both of them.

Dale Jr.'s sponsors in the 88 car will
be Mountain Dew, National Guard and Amp.

It was also announced that Tony Eury, Jr.
would follow Dale Jr. to Hendricks Motor Sports
leaving after the October 7th race in Talladega
to start the transition.

GREG BIFFLE WINS THE LIFELOCK 400
After 2 rain delays Greg Biffle wins the
race that was shortened because of approaching
darkness.

The first delay was about 45 minutes at
the beginning of the race. Then after
half-way another rain delay of about 2 1/2
hours took the time to late in the afternoon
with Tony Stewart in first after saving
fuel and not pitting. He saved fuel by
turning the engine off to coast and then
back on for a bit of power. He drove
on the flat part of the track at the bottom
to get all of the gas in the tank.

But NASCAR re-started the race again
for a shortened run and cut it even more
as darkness approached and cautions delayed
the running.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was riding high on
the outside lane and came up onto Kyle Busch
in the #5 car causing him to get loose and
spin out hitting the wall causing extensive
damage. Kyle Busch was disappointed with
Dale Junior's actions on the racetrack.

Kevin Harvick missed a crash and
was the leader on lap 162 finishing the
race in 6th place and moving up 4 positions
in the points.

Jimmie Johnson and gets in line ahead of Tony
Stewart who pushes him into first. Then more
shuffling and Johnson is behind Gordon and
Stewart is shuffled back to 8th when Gordon
crosses the checkered line.

Jeff Gordon led only 1 lap, the most
important lap, the winning lap! This is his
80th career win and 5th win of the season and
puts him in the #1 points position again.

RCR and DEI engines had a bad day
with Jeff Burton, Martin Truex, Jr. and
Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s engines all blowing
up. Kevin Harvick's car went down a cylinder.

JEFF GORDON WINS ANOTHER DOUBLE HIS 81ST WIN
Jeff Gordon wins the green-white-checkered final
at Lowe's Motor Speedway. His first finish at
this racetrack in 4 years with 5 DNF's here.
But also his first win at age 23 on May 29, 1994.

Now it's his 81st win and he is in 6th
position for all-time wins after Richard Petty
with 200 wins, David Pearson with 105 wins,
Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip with 84
wins each, and Cale Yarborough with 83 wins.

After the 14th caution with 13 laps to go
and a red-flag stop with 10 laps to go because
the 66 car engine blew-up and there was oil on
the track and Jeff Gordon's windshield, Jeff
Gordon was 1st and Kyle Busch was 2nd.

Rick Hendrick was coaching his drivers to
"be smart no wrecks" and also the crew chiefs
who shook on it after Rick talked to them. He
was nervous waiting for the restart for the win.

When the restart came Jeff was 1st, Kyle was
2nd, Clint Bowyer was 3rd, and Ryan Newman was 4th.
Jeff Gordon thought he was running out of gas
and Ryan Newman came up and around and took off
for the fastest lap of the race. But there was
a bobble when the left rear tire went down and he
spun out to hit the wall only to finish 28th 4
laps down.

After 337 laps Jeff Gordon took the checkered
flag for his 7th win this season.
Clint Bowyer finished 2nd and led 79 laps,
Kyle Busch finishes 3rd and led 4 laps.
Jeff Burton who won the Busch race Friday night
finished 4th. Carl Edwards finished 5th.
Dave Blaney finished 6th and led 1 lap.

Tony Stewart took a quick pit stop on lap 176
with a dash of gas, rushed out of the pit box into
the 01 car and then the 9 car, damaging his
right front fender. He pits again for repairs
and gets out again without missing a lap. He works
all the way through the pack to finish 7th.

Kasey Kahne finishes 8th, David Stremme 9th
Michael Waltrip 10th.

Ricky Rudd is back in the 88 car after 5 races
off due to the separated shoulder from a hard hit
in the wall at California. Today he finishes 11th.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was flying at the
start of the race in the high line near the wall
in the top 10 but lost the handling probably due
to the coil bind in the right front so that the
car chattered. He finished 19th.

Kurt Busch led 13 laps but also had contact
on a quick stop on pit road and finished 26th.

Jimmie Johnson led 95 laps in the first half
but with 103 laps to go he got loose and spun
around hitting the wall. He finished 14th.

Matt Kenseth another Chaser also had bad luck
and hit the wall finishing 34th 55 laps down.

Kevin Harvick took 2 green-flag pits for
a tire issue and finished 33rd 7 laps down.

Michael Waltrip Racing announced taking on
a 50-50 partner for financial and business support
with Michael still running the racing side of the
show. And Dale Jarrett announced he will race the
Bud Shootout, first 5 races and the All-Star Challange
in 2008 so that he can retire. David Reutimann will
drive the 44 car after that.

JIMMIE JOHNSON WINS 3RD MARTINSVILLE IN A ROW
The challange was there but Jimmie Johnson held
off Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman and Kyle Busch
through multiple cautions, a green-white-checkered
finish and led the last 50 laps to win.

This is his 7th win this season and 30th
win career win.
Jeff Gordon led the first 108 laps after
starting on the pole and led 60 more laps even
after pitting a second time because of a loose
tire and going out into 33rd position to fight
his way back to 1st position only to be overtaken
by Jimmie Johnson.

There were a record 21 cautions with the last
2 happening with 5 laps to go and then 3 laps to
go turning into the green-white-checkered finish,
the first at Martinsville.

Ryan Newman finished 2nd, Jeff Gordon finished 3rd,
Kyle Busch led 106 laps and finished 4th.

Matt Kenseth finished 5th, Denny Hamlin finished
6th, and Greg Biffle was 7th. Juan Pablo Montoya
led 9 laps and finished 8th. Clint Bowyer was
9th and Kevin Harvick finished 10th.
Jeff Burton led 51 laps and finished 12th.
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. finished 23rd after another
engine failure but had run in the top 10 all day.

Kurt Busch had right front tire issues
hitting the wall and running the tire right
off the rim. He finished 31st and fell 3 positions
in the points.

David Stremme spun out up on the high side and
Tony Stewart in the #20 and Carl Edwards in the
#99 came to a stop on the race track waiting
for Stremme to move and Tony to fire up the
car again.

JIMMIE JOHNSON WINS AGAIN AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Jimmie Johnson took the advantage during the last
8 laps and won the Pep Boys Auto 500 for his
8th win this season.

There was a caution with 7 laps to go and Kyle
Busch was leading going into the pits but the jackman
didn't elevate the car enough delaying the right front
tire change and with a 19 second stop Kyle went back
out in 15th position. Kyle had won the Craftsman
Truck Race Saturday and was hoping to win the Nextel
Cup Race after leading 77 laps but it wasn't to be.

In the pit spot that Chad Knaus picked at the end
of pit road, he was able to call a 2 tire stop for
Jimmie Johnson after seeing the pit road troubles
of Kyle Busch and moved Jimmie 4 spots up to put him
out in second place.

On the restart with 4 laps to go the single file
restart changed into a stacked up mess. The 11 car of
Denny Hamlin had stayed out and was in 1st when he ran
out of fuel. The 07 was into the 17 and Martin Truex,
Jr. ran into the back of Denny Hamlin with a hard crash
to end him in 31st after leading 135 laps.

The restart with 3 laps to go on a green-white
checkered finish was Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards,
Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Reed Sorenson and Jamie McMurray.

But before memories of March 20, 2005 could be
expanded with Carl Edwards overtaking Jimmie Johnson
for a win, the left rear wheel popped off Dale
Earnhardt, Jr.'s #8 car and he crashed hard into the
wall right in front of Jamie McMurray for his 8th DNF
due to equipment failure. Junior had just said to his
crew that he thought "something might be broken in the
back of the car".

The #8 car had overcome a penalty and a cut down
tire causing a green-flag pit stop to be in 3rd position
at the end of the race but broken equipment finished
his challange at the end.

Reed Sorenson avoided the Junior crash to finish
3rd, Matt Kenseth finished 4th, Jeff Burton finished
5th, and Clint Bowyer was 6th. Jeff Gordon struggled
all day but adjusted to an awesome race car at the
end and finished 7th. Kurt Busch led 98 laps but had
trouble on pit road with dropped lug nuts and finished
8th. Kasey Kahne led 3 laps and finished 9th. Brian
Vickers and Michael Waltrip in Toyotas finished 10th
and 11th. Kyle Busch finished 17th.

The big news for Monday is that Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
will test the COT car for Hendrick's Motor Sports
with Tony Eury, Jr. already working there. And Kyle
Busch will be testing with Joe Gibbs Racing.

And much to his generous credit, Jimmie Johnson
had designated before the race that his winnings
would go to the Red Cross for the California fire
victims. Hendrick's Motor Sports, Lowes, Burton
Smith, the France Family and others are pitching
in to match his winnings for this disaster relief.

But word just out is that some teams like
Denny Hamlin, Dave Blaney and Greg Biffle had
water in their gas and that is why it appeared
they ran out of gas. Nascar is seriously
investigating this situation.

Phoenix in the Checker Auto Parts 500. This is
his 10th win in 2007.

Jeff Gordon struggled all day and finished
10th slipping to 86 points behind Jimmie Johnson.
He said its over the only way he could win is if
Jimmie crashed out at Homestead and he doesn't want
to win that way.

Jimmie Johnson passed Matt Kenseth for the lead
with 24 laps to go and never looked back.

There were 3 Indy 500 winners in the pack: Juan
Pablo Montoya who finished 17th, Sam Hornish, Jr. who
finished 30th and Jacques Villeneuve who had a DNF.

There were 7 former Nascar champions in the race.
Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart,
Bobby Labonte, Kurt Busch and Bill Elliott.

Carl Edwards was the pole sitter and lead the
first 87 laps only to go out with engine problems.

Kyle Busch won the Truck race Friday and the
Busch race on Saturday, finishing 8th in the Cup race.

Tony Stewart had 2 long pit stops with 2 loose
lug nuts in one, but came back to finish 4th at the
end of the race.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Kasey Kahne both had
hard crashes and were out early.

One time before a driver won 4 in a row and
went on to win the championship and that was Jeff
Gordon in 1998.
