Kyle Busch wins at Chicagoland in both the Nationwide
and Sprint Cup Series. He lead 165 laps in all
but with 17 laps to go Jimmie Johnson took the
lead. After the #38 car of David Gilliand blew an
engine with 7 laps to go the restart had 2 laps to
go and set up a duel between Jimmie Johnson and
Kyle Busch. Kyle pushed up behind Jimmie and
got a run, passing on the high side. They were
side by side for a time but Jimmie got slightly
loose and Kyle pulled away to win.
Jimmie Johnson led a total of 15 laps.
Kevin Harvick finished 3rd. Greg Biffle led
43 laps and finished 4th. Tony Stewart led
11 laps and finished 5th.
Tony Stewart announced on Thursday that

With a rain out and gas strategy Kurt Busch is the
winner of the scheduled 301 lap race that was ended
after 284 laps due to the rain.
Those that took gas on the caution at lap 218 were
definitely in a better position than the leading 15
who had to stop for gas on the caution at lap 271.
Tony Stewart who was leading 132 laps was one of
these cars and when he came out 14th he had a long
way to go back to the front and then the rain came
and the race was stopped on lap 285.
Kurt Busch was in the lead after leading 10 laps
and Michael Waltrip was 2nd. J.J. Yeley was 3rd and
Martin Truex, Jr. was 4th, while Elliott Sadler finished
5th. Reed Sorensen finished 6th and Casey Mears who
had a great run in the front half of the race finished
7th after leading 53 laps.
Denny Hamlin finished 8th, Jimmie Johnson finished
9th after contending for the lead from 2nd place, and
Bobby Labonte finished 10th.
Jeff Gordon was as high as 2nd but finished 11th,
Jeff Burton finished 12th, and Tony Stewart finished
13th after having led 132 laps. Kevin Harvick finished
14th after having led 54 laps.
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. started 5th and finished 23rd
after being run into the rear by Jamie McMurray when
entering pit road on lap 271.

finish with a green-white checker. This was Kyle’s first
win on a road course after only 7 starts and his fifth
Sprint Cup win of the season.
David Gilliand had his best career finish in 2nd
place. Jeff Gordon had a rough start with poor handling
and was down to 23rd on lap 47 after starting in 5th
but finished 3rd. He’s called Mr. Sonoma after his
5 previous wins.
Clint Bowyer finished 4th, Casey Mears finished 5th,

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. started 15th and finished 11th
just trying to make it through the road course which

Gambling on gas strategy and staying out at the end going
through a caution with 3 laps to go and a green-white
checker Dale Jr. ended his 76 (points race) no-win streak.
Dale Jr. said with a huge smile on his face “They can
write what they want but we won one.”
Dale Jr. won after racing for the lead with Jamie
McMurray in the last 6 laps, then a caution with 3 laps
to go and the green-white checker was set up. But the
#88 had very little fuel left and Dale Jr. was driving
on the flat, reving up then turning off the car, just
doing whatever he could to save gas. The green flag
was thrown then the white flag then a caution on the
last lap with Junior maintaining his speed to cross
the checkered line and win! He drove directly towards
the pit road but ran out of gas and his crew
gladly pushed him into the Winner’s Circle.
Kasey Kahne came in 2nd, Matt Kenseth led 41 laps
and came in 3rd, Brian Vickers led 44 laps and came in
4th, while Tony Stewart led 1 lap and came in 5th.
Jimmie Johnson led 65 laps and came in 6th, Carl
Edwards led 21 laps and came in 7th, David Ragan led
1 lap and came in 8th, Elliott Sadler was 9th, and
Jamie McMurray led 1 lap coming in 10th.
Jeff Gordon was in the top 10 then had a too fast
exiting pit road penalty, went to the end of the lead
lap and came in 18th.
203 laps were run on this 2 mile track for the

On the 3/4 mile track at Richmond, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
came so close to winning on the track he last won
at 2 years ago but a fierce battle with Kyle Busch
for the lead led to a spin out with 2 laps to go.
Denny Hamlin led the race for a record breaking
381 laps. He had won Friday in the Nationwide series
and was the pole sitter for the Sprint Cup race but
his perfect night ended too soon with a soft then
flat tire before end of the race.
The fans stood and cheered when Dale Jr. took
with 8 laps to go, then Denny Hamlin who had
dropped back with a soft tire pulled to the side
of the track and caution was called. Dale Jr.’s
lead was shortened by the caution and Kyle Busch
made a run on the restart. They battled side by
side with the #88 a little ahead. Then the #18
got loose into Dale Jr. causing him to spin. The
fans stood and waved their fists at Kyle
for the spin out of their favorite driver.
Clint Bowyer who started 31st but had been
running 3rd took over the lead and after 8 caution
laps he kept the lead to the checkered flag.
Kyle Busch finished 2nd, Mark Martin was 3rd,
Tony Stewart was 4th and Martin Truex, Jr. 5th.

At the 2.66 mile Super Speedway Talladega
Kyle Busch came from behind, led 12 laps,
got pushes from Jeff Gordon and Juan Montoya
to win the Aarons 499 race.
In the last lap with the white flag, the
Big Wreck occured and Kyle Busch won under
the yellow flag.
This was Kyle Busch’s 7th win this season.
He has 2 Sprint Cup wins with Joe Gibbs Racing,
2 wins in the Truck series, and 3 wins in
the Nationwide Series.
When 2 drivers teamed up and pushed
to the front they would gain a lot of
momentum to take the lead. Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
and Tony Stewart did it, Michael Waltrip and
Jimmie Johnson did it and Kyle Busch and
Jeff Gordon did it.
6-time winner at Talladega, Jeff Gordon’s
strategy was to stay in second place until the
last lap and then come around to lead. But it
didn’t quite work out that way and he dropped
back loosing momentum to finish 21st.
Juan Montoya, led 1 lap and pushed behind
Kyle Busch for a time to come in second. Denny
Hamlin led 38 laps and came in third. David Ragan
was 4th, Brian Vickers led 4 laps and finished 5th.
Travis Kvapil finished 6th, Casey Mears finished
7th, and Ryan Newman led 5 laps and finished 8th.
Clint Bowyer was 9th and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. finished
10th after leading 45 laps.
Jeff Burton was caught up in the last crash
but is still leading in the points.
Carl Edwards had issues with the Right Front
tire times 3. They didn’t have the camber right.
Tony Stewart won for the first time at Talladega
in the Nationwide Series race on Saturday from the
pole. He almost won the pole for Sunday’s race but
Joe Nemecheck was a half second faster. Tony led
the most laps in the Aaron’s 499 but cut the right
front tire down and hit the wall loosing his
momentum. He finished 38th.
